Thermal Sensation: Infrarej and Microwaves
• .>*'•The number of studies of how microwaves arouse warmth sensations can be counted on the fingers of one hand. They leave many, many unanswered questions, but the nature of the questions to be asked will in general take shape in the light of the much larger amount of information thati we have about the perception of infrared radiation. So ^he main substance of this paper is to use present k...
متن کاملThermal photon statistics in laser light above threshold
We show that the reduction in photon number fluctuations at laser threshold often cited as a fundamental laser property does not occur in small semiconductor lasers. The conventional theory of threshold noise is not valid in lasers with a spontaneous emission factor larger than 10. If the spontaneous emission factor is larger than 10, the photon number statistics even remain thermal far above t...
متن کاملThe Effect of Partial Coherence on the Statistics of Single-Photon Pulses Propagating in the Atmosphere
The photon density operator function is used to describe the propagation of single-photon pulses through a turbulent atmosphere. The effects of statistical properties of photon source and the effects of a random phase screen on the variance of photon counting are studied. A procedure for reducing the total noise is discussed. The physical mechanisms responsible for this reduction are explained.
متن کاملNon-thermal Biological Effects of Microwaves
The aim of this paper is to overview the diverse biological effects of non-thermal microwaves (NT MWs) and complex dependence of these effects on various physical and biological parameters. Besides dependencies on frequency and modulation, the available data suggest dependencies of the NT MW effects on intermittence and coherence time of exposure, polarization, static magnetic filed, electromag...
متن کاملMicrowaves in organic synthesis. Thermal and non-thermal microwave effects.
Microwave irradiation has been successfully applied in organic chemistry. Spectacular accelerations, higher yields under milder reaction conditions and higher product purities have all been reported. Indeed, a number of authors have described success in reactions that do not occur by conventional heating and even modifications of selectivity (chemo-, regio- and stereoselectivity). The effect of...
